Sportsnet Hockey Hack.

Hack Hockey using Rogers 5G

November 16th – November 21st, 2019

This event is now closed. Students applied for the Sportsnet Hockey Hack: Powered by Rogers 5G for a chance to change the way millions of NHL fans watch and engage with live games.  They were at the the forefront of sports tech innovation!

This collaborative, week-long hackathon offered a unique opportunity for participants to work with Rogers’ groundbreaking, low latency 5G technology. Using real on-ice tracking data from NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs games, participants devised innovative ways to increase audience engagement and enhance the fan experience for Sportsnet viewers.

Participants spent the week hacking with an interdisciplinary team to create an innovative solution to following problem statement:

How might we provide Sportsnet and NHL fans (existing and new) an unmatched viewing experience that delivers immersive, social-safe, and fun engagements both inside and outside the physical arena, by leveraging 5G?

With the guidance of experts, mentors, and feedback from end consumers; each interdisciplinary team created a working prototype of their innovative solution and showcase their ideas. There were plenty of amazing prizes, job placement opportunities, and potential funding at stake. Applications closed at 12 noon on November 9th.
