MedMe Health milestones: accelerator program completion & product launch to help fight COVID-19

Velocity is very pleased to share two major updates on MedMe Health, one of our newest portfolio companies.

1. Completion of Wefunder’s Fight the Virus Challenge

Launched in April, Wefunder’s Fight the Virus Challenge is a 3-month accelerator program designed to help startups tackling the novel coronavirus in some meaningful way.

The ultra-competitive program received over 2,500 applications from startups all around the world. With ~1% acceptance rate, MedMe Health was chosen to help fight the virus with their digital pharmacy care platform as part of a cohort with only 17 startups.

The program’s Demo Day just went live this morning, and we wish MedMe Health much success as they strive to reach their current funding milestone of $500K (USD).

Fun fact: MedMe Health is the only Canadian company pitching.

2. Launched COVID-19 module to support asymptomatic COVID-19 testing

We also learned last week that MedMe Health has been quietly working hard on SaaS innovations for their pharmacy clients. In particular, the company has developed a COVID-19 module to support pharmacists in conducting asymptomatic COVID-19 testing. The module combines patient screening, online scheduling, and a custom virtual queuing system designed to streamline and facilitate safer testing workflows in pharmacies.

Some independent Alberta pharmacies were among the first to use this module to support Alberta’s evolving COVID-19 testing strategy. A MedMe client was able to book 20 test appointments within 24 hours of launch, ramping up testing in a safe and efficient manner.
