ExVivo, Grobo, MAJiK and Ubiq Just Won $25K

July 24, 2014

Trending number one on Twitter in Canada (#VFFS14) and with over 700 watching livestream and hundreds more witnessing the competition in person, the Velocity Fund Finals, once again, CRUSHED IT!

10 young entrepreneurs started off the event pitching live for three $1K prizes in front of what could very well be the biggest audience turnout yet for the $1K competition. Out of ten competing companies, Suncayr won two of the awards: Most Innovative and People’s Choice. Boogaloo Bunks won Best Pitch.

The afternoon’s $25K competition drew an even bigger, standing-room-only crowd. In the end, ExVivo Labs, GroboMAJiK Systems and Ubiq held up their big $25K cheques.

Ubiq won an additional $10K for best hardware startup – an award introduced last term for the first time.

Three of the four are looking to commercialize products with both a hardware and software component, which places them in the new Velocity Foundry incubation space when it opens in the coming days.

But wait! There’s more. Velocity director and MC for the day Mike Kirkup happily announced the end of the $1K competition. In its place, next term, the $1K turns to $5K!!!

Also, be sure to come out to the next Velocity Fund Finals in November (a three-times-a-year event) as we celebrate over $1 million given away to emerging startups by the Velocity Fund to date!

Well done by all of the contenders. It was truly an impressive competition. Thank you to our judges. And a big Congratulations! to all of today’s winners!
