Are you passionate about making a difference in women’s health? Join us for an exciting innovation challenge and contribute to groundbreaking solutions! 

Want to participate in an innovation challenge with $5,000 in prizes ($4,000 first prize team, $1,000 runner up)?

From October 28 to November 8, you’ll have the opportunity to collaborate with your peers to develop innovative solutions that address pressing issues in women’s health

Prizes: 

  • $4,000 first prize team
  • $1,000 runner up team

Participants in the FemTech Innovation Challenge will meet with leaders in the health industry from organizations including Grand River Hospital, Bird & Be, DOUBL, Neuraura and work with them hand-in-hand.  

The FemTech Innovation Challenge has been designed in partnership with Rachel Bartholomew, founder of FemTech Canada and Hyivy Health, a medical device femtech company created after her recent fight with cervical cancer. Bartholomew is a graduate of the University of Waterloo and has been working in various roles in the entrepreneurship ecosystem for over 15 years. 

Problem space experts workshops will be led by Jennifer Thompson, founder and CEO, Herstasis, Guelph-based gynecologist Stephanie Ferguson and Ellyn Winters-Robinson, CEO of The Lyndall Project and AskEllyn.  

No prior experience or expertise in these spaces is needed.

  • Kick-Off & Team Formation (October 28, 4-6 p.m., In-Person): Join us for an in-person event to learn about the challenge and form your team. 
  • Project Showcase (November 6, 5-8 p.m., In-Person): Showcase your team’s progress and receive feedback from the community. 
  • Final Presentations & Awards (November 8, 1:30-4 p.m., In-Person): Present your solution to a panel of judges and compete for up to $5,000 in cash prizes.  
  • There will be additional workshop opportunities to connect with experts.   

All University of Waterloo students are eligible to participate. 

*All participants must attend the Kickoff, Project Showcase, and Finals. At least one member from each team must attend every event. 

Teams must be formed and focus on solutions towards one of the following problem spaces: 

Menopause 

Breast health 

Gynecological health 

*Each problem space will be introduced at the kick-off event, giving you the opportunity to explore and choose your focus area. 

No prior experience or expertise in these spaces is needed.

All are University of Waterloo students are welcome and encouraged to participate in the FemTech Innovation Challenge. Teams will be formed based on having a wide range of skills and perspectives. Members can have many roles from project management and user experience to pitching, communications and product development.
